Plastic Surgery Before and After Photo Gallery

eyelid surgery blepharoplasty

Usually, eyelids show the earliest, most subtle signs of aging. In the upper eyelids, there is an excess loose skin at the fold and often on teyelid surgery blepharoplastyhe inner side small bumps of fat. Sometimes lots of excess skin will hang over the eyelids and, as a result, obstruct the vision in upper and outer fields. Heaviness and weight of skin may also result in pseudoptosis of upper eyelid called "drooping". In the lower eyelids, excess skin and fat herniation all along the length of an eyelid gives the appearance of chronic fatigue and a tired look. In some cases, the lower lid fat herniations may be inherited and, therefore, require corrective surgery in early 20's or 30's. At first, this tired, puffy look is the most evident in early mornings, making a person look sleep-deprived and angry.

Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly requested plastic surgical procedures as it is perhaps the first step towards facial rejuvenation. This procedure is commonly carried out in persons from early 20's to 60's and beyond.

As usual with most facial rejuvenation procedures, you are asked to stop all medications containing aspirin and all non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications 2-3 weeks prior to surgery. You should also stop smoking 2-3 weeks prior to surgery.

During surgery, excess skin and fat is removed to give you a happy, alert, and restful appearance. Sometimes the lower lid fat bags may be removed from inside of the lid (transconjunctivial) and then outer skin may be treated with laser or chemical peels to further reduce the dark circles and wrinkles. Often outer corners of the lower eyelids may be tucked upwards (lateral canthopexy) to give a more youthful appearance to the eyes.

After surgery, there is minimal pain, which can be controlled with mild pain medications. To avoid excessive swelling and bruising, cold compresses are advised for 2-3 days. Bruising may last up to 2-3 weeks in some cases, but can be camouflaged with make-up or dark glasses. Sutures self-dissolve within 5-7 days, requiring no need for suture removal. Pre-existing dryness of the eyes may be temporarily aggravated for a few weeks before settling down.
Often blepharoplasty is combined with forehead/brow lift, facelift, or any other facial rejuvenation procedures to enhance the results of total facial rejuvenation.

Insurance coverage may be available for upper lid blepharoplasty if visual obstruction is severe enough.
