Aging,
gravity, and motherhood are some of the most common reasons for droopy
breasts. Often cycles of putting on and losing weight can also result
in droopy breasts. The internal breast ligaments are stretched out
and as a result, breasts droop.
It is possible to recreate the shape of the breasts, which look youthful
and feel firm.
Before the operation, you are advised to lose weight, stop smoking,
stop all medications containing aspirin, and perhaps stop birth control
pills also.
The operation is usually carried out under general anesthesia in an
outpatient facility. Usually areola (darker skin around the nipple)
and nipple are repositioned at a higher level and the rest of the
breast tissue is reshaped in a tighter cone. Any excess skin is removed.
Often saline or silicone implants may be placed over or under the
muscle to increase the volume of the breast. Usually, this is recommended
when the patient desires to have fullness of the breast above the
nipple.
After
surgery, pain medications are prescribed for pain control. Dressings
and bra are worn for 2-3 weeks. Sutures are removed around 2 weeks.
You are strongly advised against strenuous physical exercises like
swimming, tennis, golf, etc. for 4-6 weeks. Scars will fade in about
12 months time to a pale line in most cases.
Mild to moderate sagging can be corrected by simply inserting an implant.
More severe cases needs breast reshaping with or without implants.
It is best to undertake this procedure after you decided to have no
further pregnancies, since such an event will decrease the effectiveness
of the procedure. The breast lift is not a permanent procedure since
gravity, weight changes, and time will take their toll. |
